Sit down for yet another Jump Up Story about an ambitious, proactive and adventurous member of A Data Pro family.
Meet Desi
Venturing on a new journey? Regardless of the nature of it – a new job position, a new hobby, a new problem to solve – Desi is ready to conquer them all! As a Project lead, who constantly seeks new opportunities and development, she has driven many projects to success.
Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a proud mom of a 10 year old bright girl that continues to delight her “ambitious parents” with academic achievements! I try to set up an example for her by following my interests, dreams and not being afraid to start new endeavors and keep challenging myself and growing as a person. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Pedagogy and a Master’s degree in Business Communications and Public Relations. I owe myself some guitar lessons from the 2020s New Year’s resolution (COVID kind of postponed that unexpectedly), and I am currently enrolled in a Programming (software engineering) course that will enrich my overall knowledge in the field and contribute to my day to day responsibilities.
What is your ADP Story?
At first it didn’t seem like a place I would fit in (looking at the job description). My previous professional experience was related to all day communication with young people as I worked in a Work & Travel Agency that was sending students abroad (my husband and I included). ADP was offering me a full day of communication with the computer screen which in the beginning was a huge change for me and my work habits. But I decided to give it a go, and shortly after I found a wonderful team of colleagues and mentors that helped me with that transition and finding my place. Communication didn’t disappear – it just migrated to a different channel.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your work in ADP?
Currently I am most pleased with the moments when members of my team are faced with some difficulties or challenges and I have the means and opportunity to help them one way or another. Basically I enjoy being a problem solver which is certainly a feature that one can and has to always improve.
What would you advise your younger self?
Time seems to be the thing I’m missing most these days, so if I were able to go back in time and whisper some wisdom to my younger self, it would be to focus on spending quality time with the people most important to me, be present and absorb every moment to archive in a beautiful and lively memory.
Oh…and don’t go on that ATV journey and save yourself some hospital time!
We live in a dynamic world. How do you expect the industry you work in to change over the next 12 months? (ex. interesting tendencies, trends, latest developments etc.)
Automation, automation, automation! I am amazed at how much time and resources can be saved by automating certain parts of our day-to-day activities. As I mentioned, to me time is the most expensive thing in the 21st century, and we need to work on optimizing it by improving, systemizing and easing processes as much as possible in order to have more of it for the good stuff. So the tendency is and will continue to be integrating more automated processes in work related activities.
Which fictional character do you feel you’re most like? What traits do you share with them?
Big fan of all fictions here. Can’t quite find one that really matches my personality. Maybe a combination of Monk (I have a slight form of OCD), Dr. Goodwin of New Amsterdam (“How can I help?”), and (as I’ve been informed) some Captain Marvel for her toughness and militancy. I do think I can go on but it would end in a gross omelet so I’ll stop here.
